I experienced that with Dickens in particular back in the mid-90s when I decided that I would read all of his novels within a year's time. Not a good idea, as they all started to run together at the end.

I've only read three de Lint books, these two and The Onion Girl back in 2003. But for the life of me, I cannot recall the specific titles now.

And both of you, thanks for the kind comments about the review itself.Larry Nolenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16001420558511460998noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8068873.post-40377060046555811572007-10-10T16:00:00.000-05:002007-10-10T16:00:00.000-05:00I was in awe of de Lint when I first discovered hi...I was in awe of de Lint when I first discovered his books. I ended up reading too many close together and felt a bit burnt out on them--my main complaints, I remember, were that it seemed I could know whether I was supposed to sympathize with a character or not based on that character's tastes in music, esp. Celtic music. Also the last of his books I read had a girl of Mexican descent and so used little phrases of Spanish...that were cringingly wrong (and not in a way that would fit someone who'd grown up with it but who spoke primarily English and was educated in English--there are certain types of mistakes someone like that will make, but these weren't those).

But I did like his works so much when I first found them, and it's been nearly 10 years, so I ought to give one of these a chance now.
