I first came across this book when I read excerpts of it in my eighth grade reader and was intrigued enough by those snippets to track down the book at my local library. It's remained a favourite of mine for years, though you're right, I never really did consider it to be science fiction. Logically, of course, it would have to be, but I never did approach the reading from that angle. I was always more captivated by Charlie's changing awareness of himself and the world around him, and of course saddened by the inevitable backsliding at the end.

This review has made me want to go and reread the novel, though. I wonder what new perspective I might pick up from it this time.Bibliotropichttp://www.bibliotropic.comnoreply@blogger.com
