I think there should be a Book Blogger Hatred and Dissing Week

Ah, this week brings out, like a herpes outbreak, another round of treacliness called the Book Blogger Appreciation Week.  Although I suppose there's some rationale for some people caring about what other people think about their work, it has never been a motivation for me.  In fact, I don't tend to pay all that much attention to other blogs unless there's a bit of bitchiness involved.  Therefore, I am proposing that to counter this artificial sweetness, that there be a Book Blogger Hatred and Dissing Week.

Think about it.  US-based bloggers can mock UK-based ones for their bad teeth, horrid weather, and the fact that they know good books as well as they know how to cook food that another nationality didn't first show them how to cook.  Brazilian book bloggers can have fun telling jokes about porteños and their creído.  Southern bloggers can have fun at the Yanks expense, as we are wont to do.  And we all know that Canadian bloggers are teh suck and are best abandoned to the likes of Celine Dion and William Shatner.

We could even go further, as we could have arguments over the layouts of the blogs, about who shills the most and who really needs to learn how to use new words when reviewing a book.  Maybe there could be a prize for those bloggers who break down and cry about the likes of me being "meanies" to them.  Or we could just force those benighted souls to dance the Macarena.  While wearing Lady Gaga's meat dress.

Would this be entertaining?  Your thoughts can be submitted, although I can't promise that I'd give a damn.

I was thinking it might be more entertaining to have a "critique the hell out of Larry" day. You seem to like stirring the pot, so it might be fun to have everyone take a potshot at you for once, all for fun and games :).

Or we could just diss bloggers from other parts of the world...very ethnocentric, but alright :P

Nothing said could be harsher than what I could say about myself. The funny bits would have to come from my family and well, they don't visit this site :P

And hey, why not indulge a bit in forbidden fruits? ;)

I'm all about this counterpoint to the uber corny "blogger appreciation week" also known as "the week we need to congratulate ourselves for having a hobby."

Just sleepy today, as I'm having to "reset my clock" for my temp job that begins tomorrow morning. But I'm not cranky, just, as the English say, taking the piss out of all this :P

Maybe I'll be more "positive" in the future and host a "day" for the appreciation of the fact that most (if not all) bloggers can read ;)

Sarah is fierce and highly annoyed by blogs that do "cute" stuff. I'm all for this if it means I get to see her have a go at them.

Pfft, everyone knows Canadian bloggers are the best ;) Also, I'm a cheese ball and totally loving all the appreciation going around ;)

Larry--I think this is a great idea. May I take the opportunity to say I hate your blog, and not just your blog but your squirrel references. I hate the fact you know more languages than I do. I hate I hate I hate.

Sincerely,
jv

You hate the squirrels? :O

How, how dare you, you squid-meerkat-bearist! :(

He hates the squirrels, unless they are cooked correctly.

Larry Nolen said...

No squirrel is EVER cooked properly. Their spirits haunt the stomachs of their would-be consumers. One day, like in Aliens, the squirrel will gnaw itself free. ROAR!

That's why you divvy up the squirrel to a whole host of dieters, so that no one Anti Squirrel Crusader ingests too dangerous a portion.

Larry Nolen said...

One squirrel part alone is enough to devastate a garden, a stomach, and maybe even a continent.

My, you are cranky. I'm in the middle, part of THAT book blogging community, plus the sf world so caught snap dab in the middle of the blogosphere world. What's wrong with folks celebrating books, those who write the books and those who provide the books which you seem to read so many of. What may seem self aggrandizing to you isn't to those who profit from the book bloggers. The authors, the publishers. They are right there celebrating with the bloggers. But since you don't take part in any of that stuff, you wouldn't know that.

I'm more in a silly mood than anything else. But I will admit that I never have been the type that likes group praising. Then again, I'm just a typical Gen X loner-slacker type at heart :D

Oh, I completely agree. But we UK bloggers can insult people too.

Nobody else has the samde appreciation of tea-and-book that we do. >.>

I do have a great recipe for squirrel, though.
