Larry, let me commend Christopher Barzak's The Love We Share Without Knowing to you as something you might enjoy quite a bit. It is very well written; interesting from the "understanding (or not) the Other" perspective that we had both posted about recently; and it deals in part with Americans teaching English abroad, which I know is something you've thought about.
I read and enjoyed his first book and the only reason I haven't bought it yet is I had a few bills to pay earlier this month; I'll be buying it in the next couple of weeks once my tax refund is deposited. And yes, that subject matter intrigues me quite a bit. It certainly will be a top reading priority when I do receive it later this month.
