Eclectic and striving never to follow paths into ruts, the OF Blog focuses on essays, reviews, interviews, and other odds and ends that might be of interest to fans of both literary and speculative fiction. Now with a cute owl for your enjoyment.
This one deals with perceptions involving post-apocalyptic/dystopic stories, whether they be cinema, TV, or books. Thought I'd post one sooner than five months after the previous one expired...

We somehow can't get enough of dystopia, which is continuously proved by the sheer amount of post-apocalyptic books and films of various quality thrown to us every year. The most recent example of the topic tackled at the higher end of the literary spectrum is Antoine Volodine's extravaganza Terminus Radieux which has received Le prix Médicis this year. Or another example: Vladimir Sorokin's runner-up for this year's Big Book prize is also a dystopia set in a neo-medieval future.
The reviews and opinions expressed on this blog are by rabid squirrels, who may attack if they are not correctly attributed, as appropriate. 2003-2022. Powered by Blogger.
