If anyone, most especially myself, ever needed motivation to stop drinking sodas and drink copious amounts of water (and reduce salt intake), then this picture of the urethral stent that I removed this morning following my outpatient surgery three days ago should be motivation enough. I'll put in a jump break for RSS readers who might not want such a warning (sorry for others who might be squeamish, but this is to give readers an idea of just what I suffered on Friday):

I hope this has been magnified several times. It looks like you could strangle squirrels. Otherwise, ouch. I might just have to quit soda. I just need to quit caffeine first...
I hope your recovery is considerably less painful than that looks.
Sadly, I didn't magnify it. I had to hold my right arm as far back as I could in order to get that in shot. The black string was nearly two feet and the stent itself was another 15-18." It was longer than most squirrels :O
As for the recovery, I felt fine within three hours. No more bloody urine or pain there or in my left kidney.
Now to drink a few more glasses of water...
Ouch, damn! Glad to know that your recovery's going well, though.
Hmm, suddenly I want to drink about 5 litres of water a day, and nothing else... Okay, that's a lie. There's always room for tea.
Yes, but not too much, as tea is a diuretic...but its good qualities outweigh its minor risks. Too bad I can't stomach the thought of drinking tea after an incident when I was 5, when my dad forgot to put sugar in it. Still remember the horrid taste 35 years later xx(
