New and Used Book Porn for June

Today has been a rather good day.  Got several things taken care of, including a doctor's appointment, so I enjoyed a beautifully warm day (it is still above 90 at a little past 7 PM here).  Part of the day, I spent buying used books, but I also received some new books recently, including the Library of America edition of woodcut artist Lynd Ward's 1920s-1930s wordless graphic novels, pictured above.  Almost 2/3 into the first volume and those who enjoy German impressionists will enjoy Ward's stories, as he spent some time in Weimar Germany studying.  More on Ward shortly.  Also have some used books pictured above, all but one in French or Spanish.

In a poetic frame of mind and after I read a positive review in a recent issue of The New Yorker, I went ahead and purchased The Essential Tagore, which samples from India's first Nobel Prize-winning author.  Was lucky to find the Easton Press of Dickens'  David Copperfield for only $25; it often goes for double that for the very good condition in which I found it.

Southern Boy can survive...or he can also read more about his cultural heritage.  Very curious about Miller's influences and the other books pictured above will be read and possibly reviewed in the not-so-distant future.

Still reading Cormac McCarthy's earlier, Southern novels and have added one of James Agee's to it.  Curious about the two Spanish-language works as well.

Not too bad of a haul over the past couple of weeks, even if only one of the books pictured here was a review copy (I rarely receive them these days, which is fine by me, although I will occasionally picture the ones I do receive and even review them).  Any of these appeal to you?
