And now, the YA/children's fictions (and Thomas Mann) that I bought. Many of these will be reviewed and almost all will eventually be given as a gift.
Beverly Cleary was one of my favorite writers when I was like 8 or 9 years old. Fond memories of these two books in particular. |
I remember my 4th grade teacher reading these two books aloud to me. |
She also read aloud Where the Red Fern Grows. It was so quiet in the class as she finished the final chapters. The Gaiman I haven't yet read. |
Replacement/hardcover copy of one of my favorite Mann stories. |

my sixth grade teacher also read aloud Where the Red Fern Grows. I sobbed.
and everyone stared at me. I think I kind of ruined it for everyone.
(also, I had already finished it on my own, not being able to wait a chapter a day.)
ah, Life.
I was the same way, except I didn't sob aloud in class. But I sure didn't want to read anything for a few days. Having lost a few dogs due to disease or being hit by a car in the previous couple of years, it really hit home :(
I'm planning on reviewing it in a week or two, but it'll be very tough.
I read Where the Red Fern grows in 7th grade and still remember being devastated by it.
My dad read it in high school, I think (he was born in late 1946 and the book came out in 1961), and he said it bothered him a lot due to growing up on a farm with a lot of hunting dogs being raised there.
