Pepetela (Angola) and Mia Couto (Mozambique) |
Over the past week or so, either through my two trips to Nashville's largest used bookstore, McKay's, or through purchases online, I have acquired an interesting collection of books from authors from various parts of the world. While I could have also included books from English-language writers (and a few more Spanish and Italian authors), I thought I'd just post these to highlight some works/authors that likely are not all that familiar to Anglophone readers.

Álvaro Pacheco (Brazil), Oswald de Andrade (Brazil) |

Josep Maria de Sagarra (Catalan), Rogério Bessa, ed. (Brazil) |

Arcipreste de Hita (Spain), Mario Benedetti (Uruguay) |

Rosario Ferré (Puerto Rico), Alfredo Iriarte (Colombia) |

If you get a chance I recommend Barthes' Mythologies.
A great book, and I think you'll particularly enjoy the essay on wrestling as performance. :-)

I'll look into it, but it may be months at least before I get around to it. Seems I've started a massive read/re-reading project with a friend of mine to go with the D&D/YA reads that another is having me do (her reviews should appear here in the near future).
Wow,that Mario Benedetti book cover is a beauty!
It truly is! I read it that day and the layout of illustrations and poems made each better, for me at least.
