A bit of computer porn for today

I bought a 13.3 inch Macbook today for work purposes mostly. Just thought I'd show off the little toy before I start loading word processing and educational software on it (see? Work-mostly). Bought it mostly because my previous Macbook experience at my previous job was very, very good. But man does my wallet feel lighter (literally, as I had to pay in cash due to a silly spending limit on my debit card that I didn't know about until last night), even though I'm sure this will be more than worth the money I spent on it.

Anyone else here have a Macbook or other Mac products? If so, what is your general impression of them?

I love my Mac, but have had a few hard drive issues in the past few years. Make sure you use your convenient Time Machine backup program.

I will, once I decide how I want to configure it.

Great in certain ways and lacking in others. Depends on what you specifically need them to do (or what your interests are).

Re: Time Machine. Just click the Time Machine icon and there's a tutorial. It'll schedule when it does its regular back-ups. In Windows, it's the equivalent of System Restore.

Charles,

My interests are more in having a stable OS that has a layout that I know. I've used both PCs and Macs over the years and while I agree each lacks in certain ways, when I decided that I really did need a work laptop for educational purposes, I decided to shell out the extra few hundred and get the latest 13 inch Macbook, as I see this as a work/portable computer for the next 5 years or so (my desktop PC I see as something to tinker with and to add to every 1-2 years).

Will do that setup in a little bit. Been very busy arranging the folders for work, so I can quickly write the required progress reports. Of course, I'll probably end up having to show my boss (he's in his 60s) how to access the folders, but I think the hardest part for him will be looking at the screen, since I've already customized the desktop image with my alma mater, which he can't stand :P

Aidan,

You need to do something about that whoreness ;)

I've never owned a Mac, to be honest. My first laptop was an HP dv2000, actually. It's done me good for the last two years, but I think the steady use is starting to wear out the fan, which will hopefully be resolved in the future. It's on warranty, so I might go and give it a checkup...

But, a Mac might be perfect for what you're doing. I just like Windows because I find the layout of Mac annoying and I also have an ethical issue with Mac advertising.

I'm done ranting...

I'm a total Mac fanboy. Just wonderful things to work with - no popups, programs work smoothly, and the functionality is light-years ahead of a PC (helps that they make the hardware and the software).

They're pretty, too.

Mac fan and owner. Once you go mac its hard to go back. I'm on a PC at work and the experience just sucks.
