Fighting is bad, mkay?

This is my right arm, a little over 24 hours after I injured myself breaking up a fight in my classroom.  In order to see just how swollen the hand is, I removed the wrap temporarily from around my wrist.  Had to go to the doctor today on a Workman's Comp claim, as there was the real possibility that I cracked a bone when I had to grab a student and spin him away from the peer trying to assault him.  My arm cracked very hard against a very sharp brick window sill, causing a 4-5 inch gash, a badly sprained wrist and various muscle and tendon strains throughout the forearm.  I have to wear a very heavy bandage for the next week and I'm not supposed to be typing much (or really, at all) for the next week.

Silly me, not wanting anyone to get hurt, huh?  Guess I won't be blogging or commenting much, if at all, through the weekend or until the swelling subsides.  Watch me ignore pain (and good advice) and do it quicker...

The wrong consequences for all the right reasons. Feeling for you, Larry. Hope that swelling goes down quickly, although for the singularly selfish reason that you'll be back blogging all the sooner if it does.

Thanks. I adjusted the bandages a bit and the painkillers are in full tilt now, so I feel well enough at the moment to type some. Going to make a photo-heavy post shortly, then call it a typing night.

At least it wasn't your head! But it does sound like an excellent excuse to stay home from work and do some reading.

I know your pain. My worst injury was a broken ankle (of course while breaking up a fight in the classroom). But over the years Ive had scrapes, cuts, gashes, and the worst was being in the middle of an all out riot. Heal up and enjoy the painkillers.

I guess I'm still a quick healer, as most of the wrist pain is gone today (I can type!), although I'll wear the bandages through the weekend as a precaution against swelling or infection.

We'll have to trade war stories about teaching in a juvenile correctional facility. One of my worst was when I decided to bring in The Marvel Encyclopedia for silent reading. Caused a three way fight. Amazing how quick a book can become a weapon.
